Misty Hamilton

Misty Ray Hamilton studied architecture & design at UK before deciding to pursue a
career in photography. Specializing in socio-documentary work & alternative photographic
processes, Misty is currently working on projects documenting Lexington’s local alternative
bar scene and documenting the people, places, and events in her local hometown in Springfield, KY.
She is also working on continuing her teaching career having previously taught a Literacy through
Photography project to ESL students at Cassidy Elementary School. Her work is influenced by the
photography of Shelby Lee Adams, Debbie Flemming Caffery, Henri-Cartier Bresson and Richard Avedon.
She hopes to one day attend the Maine Photographic Workshops, became a photographer’s assistant,
work for a photographic magazine publication, and, of course, travel the world making photographs.
She works part-time as a graphic designer, studio photographer, and wedding photojournalist.
Her artistic focus in photography concentrates on the blending of many genre styles in her work,
as well as, portraying a deeper truth or meaning in the subjects and scenes of her photographs.
More so, the importance of creating mood, atmosphere, and capturing a magical essence or
moment is key to the making of her images.
